MONDAY: Introduce the Weekly Theme

  • Introduce the weekly theme with pictures and post one or two on your learning poster.

This week's theme is DUCKS.

Little Lost Duckling

A little duckling called his mother one day,
"Dear mother, where are you? I've lost my way!"

His mother waddled over till she was near,
And calmed her duckling and soothed his fear.

"Little duckling," she quacked, "follow me to the lake."
And together they waddled with papa, the drake.
  • Sing a song based on the theme.

  • Do the gross motor skills activity with your child.

Teach your child to waddle like a duck. Bend down till you are almost sitting on the ground, flap your arms, and quack. You may feel silly but your two year old will love it.

  • Introduce the vocabulary word & post a picture for it on your learning poster.

The vocabulary word is duckling - a duckling is a baby duck.



TUESDAY: Introduce the Shape/Color

This week you will teach the color white.

  • Introduce the color by coloring in the crescent (previous week's shape) on your learning poster with a white crayon. The crescent should have been made using a black sheet of paper, or any dark color that will show the white well.
  • Put on a white article of clothing.
  • Point out objects around your home of the color white.
  • Add the color to a meal by choosing a white food, or using a plate, cup, or utensil of the color white.
  • Let your child color on a black sheet of paper using a white crayon.

Weekly Theme

  • Choose one story to read based on the theme.

  • Share a poem based on the theme with your child.

  • Sing the song based on the theme that you chose on Monday.

  • Review the vocabulary word and use it as you talk to your child about the theme.



WEDNESDAY: Introduce the Letter for the Week

The letter this week is the letter L.

  • Give your child a printout of the (capital) letter L to color. ~Letter Printouts~
  • Teach your child to trace the shape of the letter L using her finger. You can trace in pudding, finger paint, a shallow tray (cookie sheet) filled with rice or beans, etc.
  • Point out the letter L in signs, cereal boxes, etc.
  • Post the letter L on your learning poster.

Review the Weekly Theme

  • Choose one story to read based on the theme.

  • Share a poem based on the theme with your child.

  • Sing the song based on the theme that you chose on Monday.

  • Review the vocabulary word and use it as you talk to your child about the theme.


Review the Shape/Color

  • Point out the shape and/or color on your learning poster and discuss with your child.



THURSDAY: Introduce the Number for the Week

The number this week is the number 12.

  • Show your child 12 objects to count, or eat 12 mini crackers, 12 cheerios, etc.
  • Show your child the written symbol (numeral) for 12 and put on your learning poster.
  • Add 12 stickers to your counting book.
  • Show your matching index cards for the number 12 to your child.
  • Draw 12 crescents on a piece of paper and count them with your child.
  • Walk around your home counting 12 of many different objects.

Review the Weekly Theme

  • Choose one story to read based on the theme.

  • Share a poem based on the theme with your child.

  • Sing the song based on the theme that you chose on Monday.

  • Review the vocabulary word and use it as you talk to your child about the theme.


Review the Shape/Color

  • Point out the shape and/or color on your learning poster and discuss with your child.


Review the Letter

  • Point out the letter on your learning poster and discuss with your child.


FRIDAY: Introduce the Nursery Rhyme for the Week
***Continue to recite this rhyme daily till the next Friday***

  • Post the words to the rhyme on your learning poster.

The nursery rhyme this week is Curly Locks. Recite often!

Curly-locks, Curly-locks, wilt thou be mine?
Thou shalt not wash dishes, nor yet feed the swine;
But sit on a cushion, and sew a fine seam
And feed upon strawberries, sugar, and cream.
  • Sing and/or recite the nursery rhyme for your child.

  • If possible, read a book based on this nursery rhyme.


Review the Weekly Theme
**Do theFine Motor Skills Activity for the Weekly Theme on Friday
Find some feathers at a craft store. Let your child glue feathers to a printout or drawing of a duck.
  • Choose one story to read based on the theme.

  • Share a poem based on the theme with your child.

  • Sing the song based on the theme that you chose on Monday.

  • Review the vocabulary word and use it as you talk to your child about the theme.


Review all Shapes, Colors, Letters, Numbers

  • Review all the shapes, colors, letters, and numbers previously learned.

  • Point out the current ones on the learning poster.

  • Use the matching index cards of all the previously learned numbers and play a matching game.

  • Create a small booklet that has a page for each week in the program. Each page of the booklet will have the shape/color, letter, and number for one lesson(week). Add to the booklet as you work through the program and look through this booklet every Friday.
